The Placer County Planning Commission has greenlit a plan to transform a familiar camping locale into a resort-style retreat, poised to elevate the experience of the great outdoors. The commission's approval opens the path for the Cisco Grove Campground, which sits cozily just off Interstate 80, to undergo a significant revamp courtesy of Sun NG Cisco Grove RV Inc. The campground, nestled near Donner Summit in the vicinity of the unincorporated community of Cisco Grove, is set to retain its traditional offering of 144 campsites while introducing a host of modern amenities intended to indulge its patrons.
With an eye towards recreation, and community engagement, the blueprint for the campground's transformation includes a slate of upgrades. Campers can look forward to a refurbished general store and welcome center, a swimming pool designed for beating the summer heat, and a snow tubing hill complemented by a pavilion for winter fun. The additions extend to a miniature golf course, pickleball courts, a crafts pavilion, and a paddle boat dock. These enhancements aim to amplify the family-oriented nature of the site and will be accessible exclusively to registered campers, with no provisions made for public day use.
Outdoor enthusiasts who frequent the campground will find that the upgraded facilities cater to both the summer and winter seasons. The campground plans to maintain its regular operation schedule from mid-May through mid-October for tent and RV camping, while offering limited RV camping options from October through May, ensuring a year-round allure. The project's scope also stretches beyond leisure, with the construction of on-site employee housing capable of accommodating up to 32 workers, reflecting a consideration for the staff's well-being and operational efficiency.
Attention has also been given to the pressing challenge of fire safety. The campground's rejuvenation will incorporate fire-safe design standards, forged through collaboration with CAL FIRE to ensure a conscientious approach towards the ever-present wildfire threat. The Cisco Grove Campground, traversing the boundary of Placer and Nevada counties, enjoys an average annual footfall of 47,000 visitors. Notably, it's the Placer County segment of the campground, specific to the address of 48415 Hampshire Rocks Road, that will benefit from these enhancements, as reported by Placer County's official website.
