Starting next week, the Portland Bureau of Transportation will begin a year-long overhaul of the intersection at N Rosa Parks Way & Greeley Avenue, aiming to replace the outdated traffic signal and improve safety for all users. Enhancements will include a new crosswalk on the west leg of the intersection, dedicated left-turn lanes, updated curb ramps, and protected left-turn signals to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow, with occasional delays expected, as stated by the City of Portland.
Despite the construction, "The intersection will remain open to all modes of travel," and PBOT assures that access to nearby businesses will be maintained. A driveway closure on the northeast corner will reduce conflicts between drivers, sidewalk users, and transit passengers, contributing to smoother travel during the project, as reported by the City of Portland.
New fiber communications will be added to N Greeley Avenue to improve signal coordination. According to the City of Portland, "New fiber communications will also allow for advanced signal coordination along N Greeley Avenue," which will help make bus travel faster and more reliable, especially during congestion. During construction, some nearby TriMet stops will be temporarily closed, and a Biketown station will be relocated. Riders should check TriMet.org and the Biketown app for updates. The project is expected to take about a year and will improve traffic flow and safety for all travelers.
