Before dawn Tuesday, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the eastbound feeder of Beltway 8 at Highway 249 in northwest Harris County. Deputies say the rider was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2:40 a.m. The eastbound feeder was shut down for the investigation, while the main lanes of Beltway 8 and Highway 249 stayed open, as reported by KHOU.
Crash details
According to KHOU, Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators said the motorcycle—preliminarily identified as a Honda—was hit from behind on the eastbound service road. Sgt. Bondurant with HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division told KHOU the impact launched the rider from the bike as deputies worked to secure evidence and document the scene. The rider’s identity has not been released.
Driver, road status
FOX 26 Houston reports the driver who struck the motorcycle was not intoxicated and is cooperating with investigators. That driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Crews expected to reopen the feeder by about 6 a.m., as per FOX 26, and the main lanes of Beltway 8 and Highway 249 remained open. No arrests or charges have been announced.
Investigation and possible charges
The Sheriff’s Office said its vehicular-crimes unit responded and will conduct a full reconstruction to determine what led up to the crash. If investigators find criminal culpability, the case will be referred to the district attorney. Sgt. Bondurant cautioned that findings remain preliminary as deputies continue gathering evidence at the scene, according to KHOU. The probe is ongoing.
