Beginning tomorrow, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Fort Apache Agency, in coordination with White Mountain Apache Tribal Forestry, will begin prescribed burns on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, depending on conditions. According to the Arizona Wildfire dashboard, the operations aim to reduce excess vegetation and restore natural fire patterns to lower the risk of large wildfires.
The burns are planned to maintain low to moderate fire intensity and support ecosystem management. Scheduled broadcast burn areas include Coyote West and Turkey Creek, while pile burns are planned for Grasshopper and South Fought Ridge.
Prescribed burns depend on several factors, including personnel availability, weather conditions, fuel moisture, and smoke management. As a result, the schedule may change.
Residents and visitors in nearby areas should be prepared for visible smoke and possible reduced air quality during operations. The burns will be managed to limit smoke impacts as much as possible.
