The Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated CSU Bakersfield in four sets on Sunday. The win moved Hawaii into a fifth-place tie with Cal State Northridge, with a season record of 11-14 overall and 7-7 in Big West conference play, according to Spectrum Local News.
The Rainbow Wahine won their third straight game, with middle blockers Miliana Sylvester and Bri Gunderson each recording 12 kills and combining for 12 of UH’s 13 blocks, as reported by Hawaii Athletics. Setter Adrianna Arquette had 43 assists, 14 digs, four blocks, and two aces, while outside hitters Cha’lei Reid and Tyla Reese Mane added 11 and nine kills. UH had more service aces (8-5) and blocks (13-8) than CSUB. “I think now the team is starting to believe,” UH assistant coach Nick Castello told Spectrum Local News.
The Rainbow Wahine will play their final regular-season road games against UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, which has a 10-game winning streak. Wins would improve Hawaii’s chances of reaching the Big West tournament at Long Beach State’s Pyramid over Thanksgiving weekend. Freshman Kahea Moriwaki set a career-high in service aces, and Jaci Miyasaki tied her season-high in digs, contributing to the team’s recent performance.
