The M.T. Pope House Museum will host a special event on Nov. 15, honoring the contributions of Black medical professionals from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The program will explore their impact on medicine and healthcare. Visitors to the M.T. Pope House Museum can learn about the experiences of Black medical practitioners and patients navigating a healthcare system marked by inequality. The program, announced yesterday, will include displays of vintage medical supplies, providing an educational and historically informative experience, according to the City of Raleigh.
The event’s partnership with Shaw University Archives adds depth by providing authentic historical context and firsthand accounts from the period. Attendees can explore the exhibits from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission to the event is free. The museum will display medical artifacts and provide information on the contributions of Black healthcare practitioners during a period when access to care was limited. Additional details are available on the museum’s official website.
