As the season of holiday cheer comes into full bloom, the City of Ramsey is offering residents a way to pair festivity with environmental responsibility. Beginning December 1, locals with outdated or broken holiday lights can bring them to City Hall, which is now accepting and recycling the seasonal strands to help keep waste out of landfills.
The recycling initiative, announced on the city’s official social media, serves not only as a nod toward energy efficiency but also as part of a broader effort to reduce waste. "You can recycle the unwanted lights starting MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, at Ramsey City Hall, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)," the post reads.
In the spirit of streamlined recycling, the City of Ramsey has outlined clear guidelines to keep the process running smoothly: only light strands are accepted, and residents are asked to remove and discard any plastic frames—such as those attached to decorative stars or snowmen—before dropping items off. The program also accepts phone and extension cords, widening the scope of electronics Ramsey is intentionally diverting from landfills. Residents with questions about holiday waste or the program’s specifics can reach Senior Planner Chris Anderson at [email protected] or 763-433-9817.
