Early Thursday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested 44-year-old musician Ray J, also known as William Ray Norwood Jr., following a domestic dispute during which he allegedly pulled a gun on his ex-wife, Princess Love, in the presence of their children. The incident, which Princess Love claims escalated from a heated argument over her plans to take their children and leave, unfolded during a live stream and was later widely circulated across social media platforms, as KTLA reported.
After the police were dispatched to the 20000 block of Birmingham Way around 3:55 a.m., responding officers discovered a firearm, among other weapons, at the residence. Having been accused by Princess Love of making criminal threats and pointing the gun at her during their live broadcast confrontation, Ray J was taken into custody and booked into the Van Nuys jail, confirms KTLA. Following the arrest, he remained in custody, as per a Sheriff’s Information Bureau spokesperson.
In a more dramatic recount of the events, TMZ reports that during the live stream, Ray J grabbed a handgun from a table, loaded it, and issued threats, saying, "If these n—– step foot close to this door I’m going to blow this f—ing s— away, bro." The situation further escalated as he allegedly threatened off-camera to "shoot" and "kill" another man present at the scene. Disturbingly, in the midst of the altercation, crying from a child could be heard towards the end of the live stream, just before police sirens approached.
Jail records, as confirmed by ABC7, show that Ray J was arrested on Thanksgiving around 4 a.m. for a felony, although specific charges were not immediately detailed. The "Sexy Can I" singer, and younger brother of singer and actress Brandy, was released after posting a $50,000 bond. The 911 call indicated that the domestic dispute might have involved custody issues, and the caller reported that Ray J was possibly armed.
Neither Ray J nor Princess Love has yet issued any statements regarding the incident, and representatives for both parties have not responded to inquiries. The news of his arrest comes following a turbulent marital history between Ray J and Princess Love, which saw Princess Love file for divorce for the fourth time in February 2024.
