Filling a pivotal role within the Fort Worth Fire Department, Raymond Hill has stepped up to serve as the city’s interim fire chief. His appointment was confirmed last Tuesday, Oct. 28, by the Fort Worth City Council, following a resolution that received approval. As of noon last Friday, Hill, a stalwart of the department with over three decades of service, has assumed the responsibilities of interim chief, according to the City of Fort Worth.

City Manager Jay Chapa, who appointed Hill, spoke highly of the interim chief, saying, per the City of Fort Worth, "Chief Hill is a proven leader with the Fort Worth Fire Department who brings a depth of knowledge and decades of experience to this interim role." The interim tag will hold until Fort Worth concludes its selection process for a permanent fire chief, a period during which Hill will steer the department. Having served since December 1994, Hill climbed the ranks from firefighter to the assistant chief of educational and logical services before his latest ascension, moving through every position along the way.

The path taken by Hill through the FWFD echelons is a testament to his dedication and deep understanding of the multifaceted operations within the department. His tenure as assistant chief found him managing crucial aspects of the department, such as recruit training, in-service training, and sections of facility maintenance, alongside several other critical responsibilities.

Holding two degrees in science, one from Tarrant County College and another from Columbia Southern University, along with a bachelor's from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master's from Amberton University, Hill has pursued an extensive educational path. These credentials underscore his expertise and commitment to his role within FWFD. Commemorating the new interim chief's milestone, a swearing-in ceremony was held where City Secretary Jannette Goodall administered the oath to Hill, marking the start of his tenure.
