AAA Texas forecasts that 5.8 million Texans will travel more than 50 miles for Thanksgiving this year, a 1.1% increase from last year. About 90% of them are expected to travel by road, contributing to heavy traffic and busy airports, according to FOX26 Houston.

AAA Texas advised travelers to check their vehicles before Thanksgiving. Spokesperson Doug Shupe said, "Check the tire thread and inflation," and, “Make sure your battery has a good charge and you’ve cleaned any corrosion around the battery terminals. Most batteries last 3-5 years, so if your battery is three years old or older, you might want to have it tested before heading out there," as reported by CW39. About 328,000 Texans are expected to fly this Thanksgiving, up 2% from last year. INRIX predicts the heaviest road congestion on November 25 and 26, with AAA noting a return rush on December 30. Gas prices in Texas will average $2.61 per gallon, similar to last

"Thanksgiving travel is a true Texas tradition," Galen Grillo, Vice President and General Manager of AAA Texas, told FOX26 Houston. Popular destinations for Texas travelers include Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and the Hill Country. AAA expects 81.8 million Americans to travel for Thanksgiving this year, 1.6 million more than last year. Texas accounts for a large share of these travelers.
