St. Charles Parish residents may need to adjust their commutes as several road closures are in effect, impacting various areas due to construction activities and roadwork. The news, published on St. Charles Parish's official website, details multiple closures and detours across the region.
Jonathan Street in Destrehan is currently shut down indefinitely, with a note that emergency traffic should now use Bunge’s heavy haul road to reach Noel Street, as an alternative to Lorraine Street. Further disruptions continue with Ormond Center Court in Destrehan experiencing blockage from 150 Ormond Center Court to 3001 Ormond Blvd, for which a detour has been clearly established to facilitate vehicle passage.
Significant roadwork is also affecting LA 628, with both northbound and southbound lanes subject to a full closure that started on October 24 and is expected to last until November 21, weather permitting. The Montz Pump Station Permit Project, alongside related roadway construction, is cited as the cause for this disruption. Within this space, the LA 18 (River Rd) also faces recurring closures during working hours, pressing motorists to seek alternative paths like LA 3127 and US 90, with signs to aid navigation. As reported by St. Charles Parish's official site, drivers are guided to avoid the work zones through specified detours.
Finally, on LA 3127, between St. James Parish Line and St. Charles Parish Line, commuters will have to prepare to face intermittent and alternating lane closures starting November 3 and extending all the way to October 30, 2026. The long-term project will see the installation of drainage structures and an asphalt mill and overlay. Restrictions are set in place for oversized loads, limiting them to 12 feet in width. Detour information advises motorists to either take a journey around the construction via I-10 and I-310 or use LA 3213 and LA 641, depending on their direction of travel.
