Rice University is set to unveil a major new development project that aims to more seamlessly connect its campus to the bustling Rice Village area. In a scheduled announcement for Nov. 6, Rice will be sharing details of the awaited initiative designed to revitalize the sports venues while also enhancing the pedestrian experience between the two Houston hubs. University officials are positioning the development to not only modernize facilities but to also create an inviting ecosystem where the public can more easily access and to enjoy shared spaces. President Reginald DesRoches, Chairman Robert T. Ladd, and other key figures from Rice University will present their vision at the media event, which is being held at Rice Stadium's west parking lot. The venture promises a new walkable layout that will enrich the area's accessibility and imbue a sense of community engagement.
Concurrently, Rice Village is adding some winter wonder to their mix by launching Ice Village—the district's first outdoor ice-skating rink. The holiday attraction, set to open on Nov. 28, will be located just a stone's throw away from Starbucks and Birkenstock at 2405 Amherst Street. As per CW39's coverage, the rink will offer themed events, ranging from "Music Mondays" to "Ugly Sweater Sundays," and will remain open through Jan. 4, 2026.
