An inmate from Rikers Island, Corey Henry, has received a five-year sentence after pleading guilty to charges of first-degree Assault and second-degree Attempted Murder stemming from two separate incidents involving the vicious stabbings of fellow inmates. According to a report from the Bronx District Attorney's Office, the sentencing took place today.

Henry, allegedly a member of the Folk Nation gang, was involved in the attacks over what has been described as gang-related disputes. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, grappling with ongoing violence within the jail, commented on the case, saying, "This defendant attacked the victims over petty, gang-related disputes, leaving them seriously injured." Clark's remarks, as taken from the Bronx District Attorney's Office, underscored a commitment to prosecuting jailhouse violence "even when the victims do not want to go forward," affirming that perpetrators "will face accountability."

On August 3, 2023, Henry reportedly used a makeshift weapon to repeatedly stab and slash another inmate in the neck and face within the Robert N. Davoren Center's dayroom. The intervention of NYC Department of Correction staff brought an end to the assault, requiring the victim to receive numerous stitches for their wounds. A second act of violence occurred on October 27, 2023, when Henry, seen on video surveillance, alongside three other inmates, slashed and stabbed another inmate in the Enhanced Supervision Housing unit of the Rose M. Singer Center, again necessitating DOC officer intervention, according to information retrieved from the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Henry's plea deal resulted in concurrent sentencing that will run alongside his prison term for a previously convicted murder in Brooklyn. Initially, prosecutors had sought consecutive sentences for the attacks. The case prosecution was led by Senior Investigative Assistant District Attorney Georgia D. Barker of the Rikers Island Prosecution Bureau. The investigative efforts, praised by Clark, were conducted by a team from the Department of Correction Central Intelligence Bureau including Investigators Korab Hasangjekaj, James Ruiz, Jeffrey Rios, and Walter Holmes, as well as Rikers Island Intelligence Analyst Aryeh Halevy, and Trial Preparation Assistance from Alicia Henry and Supervisor Netanya Pierrot.
