Around 20 inmates were involved in a riot on Monday morning at California State Prison in Folsom. Prison staff used chemical agents, nonlethal weapons, and warning shots to regain control. Four inmates were injured and taken to hospitals, and one was treated on-site but declined transport. First responders arrived about 20 minutes after the riot started, as reported by CBS News Sacramento.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed that injuries from the prison riot were not life-threatening, and no staff members were harmed. Four improvised weapons were recovered, suggesting the violence was premeditated.
"The safety and security of staff, incarcerated individuals, and the institution remain our highest priority," a CDCR official said, as per FOX40. Inmates involved are being placed in restricted housing, movement within the facility is limited, and investigations into the riot’s causes are ongoing.
