Residents of Roseville can perhaps sleep a little sounder after the local police department's recent apprehension of suspected mail thieves. Detailed in a post by the City of Roseville Police Department, the incident began on November 11 when officers responded to reports of stolen mail from a cluster mailbox at the juncture of Junction Blvd. and Country Club Dr.
The initial report was taken by a Community Safety Officer, who learned that credit cards pilfered from the mail had been used fraudulently. Victims pointed the police to the stores where the cards had been misused. Using this intel, law enforcement was able to obtain surveillance footage of the culprits actively using the stolen cards. The Roseville Police Department's Real Time Crime Center played a pivotal role in the investigation shortly thereafter by identifying the suspect's vehicle, linked to the mail thefts.
On November 17, the surveillance apparatus of the force alerted patrol officers of the vehicle's presence in the city. In short order, the vehicle was located and its occupants detained. A subsequent search of the vehicle unearthed incriminating evidence that connected the detainees to both the mail theft and the credit card fraud.
Arrests followed swiftly, with 35-year-old Tyler Murphy facing the law for Identity Theft, Mail Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance with priors and outstanding warrants for Burglary and Identity Theft. Samaine Vannathongkhay, 44, was booked for Identity Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Priors. The list extends to 41-year-old Steven Seuthsanith who was arrested for Identity Theft, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Mail Theft, all this, according to the City of Roseville Police Department's social media post.
The Roseville Police Department illustrated through this case how internal divisions like Patrol, Community Service Officers, and the Real Time Crime Center collaborate with the community to tackle crime and bring about a sense of justice.
