On October 25, Sacramento Police conducted a welfare check at a residence on San Juan Road after family members reported not hearing from their loved one, leading to a missing person investigation. The initial check found nothing, but the inquiry continued under detective supervision, as reported by the Sacramento Police Department.
Last Thursday, a search warrant at the same address revealed the body of the missing individual. Christina Cowens, 41, the caretaker of the residence, was arrested and charged with unlawful disposal of human remains, grand theft, and concealment in relation to a death, as stated by the Sacramento Police Department.
Cowens, who has been in custody since her arrest, is now charged with homicide and additional fraud-related offenses. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is identifying the deceased and notifying next of kin. According to the Sacramento Police Department on their Facebook page, "The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357)." A reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips.
