Residents of Salt Lake City should prepare for a mix of calm winds and potential snowfall this week, as the National Weather Service has released its latest forecast. National Weather Service Salt Lake City reports that today will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 45 degrees, while calm winds persist.
The weather will take a turn tonight, with a 30% chance of rain and snow after 5 a.m., though little to no accumulation is expected. The temperature is set to hover around 32 degrees, the calm winds providing a semblance of respite to the chilled air. On Sunday, snowfall could mix with rain after 8 a.m. with an 80% chance of precipitation, and despite the high reaching approximately 41 degrees, little to no snow accumulation is anticipated.
Heading into Sunday night, chances for rain and snow will dip to 30% before 8 p.m., shifting to a possibility of snow between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. The forecasted low is around 24 degrees with northwest winds calming as the evening progresses. The start of the week looks more promising with mostly sunny skies on Monday and an expected high near 38 degrees.
The uncertainty returns on Tuesday with a 40% chance of snow before 2 p.m., followed by a chance of mixed rain and snow until 5 p.m., then again, a switch to the possibility of rain after 5 p.m. The mixed bag of precipitation extends into midweek, with cloudy conditions giving way to partly sunny ones by Wednesday afternoon. The fluctuating conditions serve as a reminder for residents to dress in layers and prepare for swift changes in this capricious mountain climate. New snow accumulation could potentially add up to less than a half inch.
