San Antonio Celebrates Completion of AT&T Fiber Internet Project Enhancing City's Connectivity

In a substantial upgrade to San Antonio's digital infrastructure, AT&T, in collaboration with the city, has recently finalized a far-reaching fiber internet project aimed at enhancing high-speed connectivity across the region. The initiative has effectively wired more than 20,000 additional residential and business locations with cutting-edge fiber internet, as confirmed by a statement from the City of San Antonio. Alongside this infrastructural feat, AT&T has crossed a notable threshold by serving its 10 millionth fiber internet customer nationally.

Commemorating this double-barreled achievement, AT&T joined forces with Human-I-T to equip the nonprofit Restore Education with 65 refurbished laptops for distribution among the City of San Antonio residents in need, a move celebrated by Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. "Expanding access to high-speed internet is essential for equity, opportunity, and economic growth in San Antonio," Jones stated, emphasizing the fruitful partnership between AT&T and the municipal government in delivering tangible benefits to the community.

Critical to this development is the project's value, with AT&T funneling approximately $24.6 million and the City of San Antonio nearly $9 million into the initiative. City Manager Erik Walsh highlighted the importance of the investment. "This project is a major step forward in expanding opportunity for over 20,000 San Antonians," Walsh said, acknowledging the need for the City of San Antonio, as the nation's seventh-largest city, to provide its residents with reliable, high-speed internet.

AT&T's Vice President of External and Legislative Affairs, JD Salinas, outlined the broader benefits of the project. "Connectivity is at the heart of everything we do," Salinas commented. He continued, stating the company's pride in being integral to the initiative that notably accelerates San Antonio's digital landscape, making a special mention, of the laptop donations that aim to help locals harness digital resources to their fullest potential, as stated by the City of San Antonio.

AT&T Fiber is acclaimed for its substantial network reach and top-rated services, as signified by Ookla's Speedtest Intelligence data for the first half of 2025, which rated it the fastest nationwide. The company's ongoing commitment to network excellence not only advances its portfolio of high-quality internet services, but equally sets an industry benchmark for consumer satisfaction. AT&T's significant Texas infrastructure investments – nearly $12.9 billion between 2020 and 2024, with $1 billion allocated to the San Antonio-New Braunfels area alone, as per the City of San Antonio.
