
San Antonio will observe World Day of Remembrance on Sunday, a day established by the United Nations to honor victims of traffic violence and promote safer road practices. City Hall will glow in yellow light, with Cat Hernandez saying, "The yellow light represents a candle flame, lit to memorialize the victims and their families to road violence," according to the City of San Antonio.
Vision Zero San Antonio is urging residents to drive responsibly, while The Children's Hospital of San Antonio will light its fin next to the Spirit of Healing mural in support of the day. Garret Clark emphasized safety measures, stating, "Proper car seat installation can drastically reduce injury and death of our most precious cargo," as reported by the City of San Antonio.
This year, more than 133 fatal crashes in San Antonio have resulted in 141 deaths, with pedestrians and cyclists among the most affected. Vision Zero San Antonio and SAPD emphasize safety, with Hernandez saying, "Drivers must be vigilant, and those who are walking and biking must be aware of their surroundings," and "Our goal is zero deaths; zero serious injuries." The city is promoting safety initiatives, including a crosswalk campaign, San Antonio’s High Injury Networks, an HIN Dashboard on SA.gov, and educational outreach to community groups such as students and senior citizens, as stated by the City of San Antonio.
