A tragic event unfolded on a Saturday morning at Mission Landscape Supplies in San Antonio when 21-year-old Jose Hernandez, an employee at the establishment, opened fire on his colleagues, turning a place of business into a crime scene. As reported by FOX San Antonio, the shooting claimed the lives of three individuals and ended with the alleged perpetrator also dead.
On the northeast side of the city, police were called to the 4400 block of Stahl Road, near O’Connor Road, at about 7:45 a.m.. A grim discovery awaited them upon their arrival. Found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound a few hours after the shooting, the suspect was identified as Jose Hernandez Galo, KENS 5 reports.
The victims, who were fatally wounded in the incident, were employees as well, and their identities have been released: Selvin Chacon, age 48, Sergio Chacon, 38, and Karen Bautista, 24, all fell victim to the senseless violence that day. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, quoted in the coverage by KENS 5, stated, "I don’t know the motive, but it was not random." McManus was visibly saddled with the task of piecing together yet another instance where the workplace turned into a ground for inexplicable violence.
Residents, who were advised to stay indoors while the suspect was still at large, felt the palpable tension in the air, as a police description circulated of a man in his early 20s with a goatee wearing a black shirt and pants, slim built. By 11:40 a.m., the confirmation of Hernandez's death by Chief McManus marked a sorrowful end to a tragic morning. According to the same statement obtained by KENS 5, "there is no longer a threat to the public."
