A man was arrested this week in Santa Clarita after allegedly being caught on camera assaulting a turtle at the Valencia Town Center. According to KTLA, the incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and involved the man violently slamming the animal to the ground.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies arrested the 34-year-old suspect from Van Nuys after he reportedly acted erratically upon their arrival. Assisting in the arrest, Valencia Town Center security personnel, who had previously observed the man disturbing turtles, identified him as the perpetrator. With the deputies locating the suspect, they detained the individual quickly.
As confirmed by surveillance footage, the suspect was seen removing a turtle from its aquatic environment and inflicting blunt trauma by repeatedly slamming it on the ground. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station shared details in a Facebook post, stating the turtle received emergency care but did not survive the ordeal. The man faces charges related to animal cruelty and was reportedly resistant during the arrest, prompting the deputies' use of force.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
