Swimmers in Santa Monica will need to tweak their schedules as the Santa Monica Swim Center prepares for its annual maintenance closure. According to details released on Santa Monica Community Aquatics, the center will shutter its doors starting December 15, with a reopening scheduled for January 4, 2026.
The maintenance roster is extensive this year, with significant overhauls planned for the fitness pool deck that include "replacement of perimeter pool grates, concrete reinforcement, hydro-jetting of deck drains, and resealing of expansion joints," the announcement says, citing Aquatic Program Manager Joelle Simmons, the pool won't be the only area getting a facelift; locker room and shower areas are set for upgrades, the boiler and HVAC systems will be serviced, and general facility upkeep is on the agenda to maintain the swim center's pristine condition.
In light of this interruption, lap swimming will move temporarily to Santa Monica High School's pool, starting from December 20. The high school facility will host expanded lap swim hours between midday and afternoon stretches, depending on the day, ensuring that swimmers still have access to training spaces through the holiday season.
Patrons planning to use the temporary facilities at SaMoHi can find directions and parking details on the community aquatics page; Olympic Blvd is accessible eastbound from 4th Street, offering complimentary parking next to the pool with additional parking at the nearby Civic Center Parking Structure to accommodate for the expected increase in traffic, and with the lot operating on a first-come-first-served basis, it is advised to allow extra time for parking especially when concurrent campus events are taking place.
