Vallejo residents received a grim reminder of the threats lurking online when local police made an arrest in the case of alleged child sexual exploitation. According to a social media post from the Vallejo Police Department, last Thursday, officers were called to a residence in the North Vallejo neighborhood after a family member of a juvenile reported potential online child exploitation.

An adult male had reportedly contacted the juvenile through a social media app. This contact led to a physical meeting in Vallejo, after which the juvenile disclosed having experienced inappropriate contact. During the initial investigation, digital evidence was collected, and child welfare services were notified to begin actively supporting the family.

Following the initial response, the Vallejo Police Department's Detective Division, with assistance from the Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team, took over the investigation. Their review of the evidence and interviews with involved individuals led to the identification of 25-year-old Jonas Angel Fierro Alonso from Santa Rosa as the alleged perpetrator.

In an undercover operation conducted yesterday, the POP Team successfully apprehended Alonso without incident. He was later interviewed, arrested, and booked for multiple felony charges, including act of oral copulation, enticing a child to prostitution, and possession of child pornography. Vallejo Police Department's Chief of Police, Jason Ta, emphasized the predatory nature of this crime and the coordinated efforts that led to the suspect's arrest, stating, “Technology based crimes targeting children are deliberate and predatory. The Vallejo Police Department remains committed to prioritizing these investigations and working with our partners to pursue anyone who exploits or targets minors in our community," as per the Vallejo Police Department's Facebook page.
