For those planning to cozy up with a good book or scour the shelves for that perfect holiday film, take note of the upcoming closures at Scott County Libraries. The branches will be observing several holidays, which means doors will be shut on Veterans Day, November 11, and will remain closed through the Thanksgiving weekend of November 27 & 28. The festive closures continue with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, December 24 & 25, and an early closure on New Year's Eve, December 31, with all branches closing at 5pm.
However, there's a gift in store for library lovers—Extended Access. According to an announcement on the Scott County Government website, library cardholders aged 16 and over can bypass these holiday closures at six Scott County Libraries (excluding the Shakopee Library). This special access allows visitors to enter between 6am and 10pm, every single day, even when the full services are not available.
While the Shakopee Library might not participate in the Extended Access program, the other six locations stand ready to welcome patrons in search of a literary reprieve or a cinematic escape. So, before you find yourself facing a locked door, keep the closure dates in mind and consider taking advantage of the extended hours that have been generously provided.
The Extended Access offering is particularly convenient for last-minute holiday preparations. Patrons can pop into the library for that unexpected family movie night or a quiet corner to escape the holiday hustle. It’s a reminder of the ongoing commitment of Scott County Libraries to provide resources and accessibility—on holidays and every day. Remember, the Extended Access service requires a valid library card, an easy and worthwhile investment for any Scott County resident.
