Seattle police arrested a 47-year-old man yesterday morning after responding to reports of a suspected robbery in North Seattle. The incident took place in the 8700 block of Aurora Avenue North. While officers determined that no robbery had occurred, they discovered the suspect was in possession of a stolen handgun, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The firearm had been reported stolen nearly eight years ago by the New Llano Police Department. The man, a convicted felon and registered sex offender, is legally barred from owning firearms. He was taken into custody for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. After claiming to have ingested methamphetamine, he was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment before being booked into the King County Jail.

Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are continuing the investigation. The suspect is also being investigated for a separate felony and possible failure to register as a sex offender. Authorities have not released further details, and additional charges may be filed as the case develops.
