Early yesterday morning, a shooting outside a nightclub in Seattle’s Pioneer Square left a 27-year-old man seriously injured, prompting an active police investigation. According to the Seattle Police Department’s Blotter, officers patrolling the area as part of the Joint Enforcement Team (JET) heard gunfire around 1:45 a.m. near the 100 block of South Washington Street.
Responding officers located and detained a 25-year-old security guard who witnesses said discharged his firearm. Police directed the guard to drop his weapon and remove his ballistic vest before taking him into custody. Nearby, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg and provided first aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived to transport him to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
Detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit processed the scene and interviewed the suspect at Seattle Police Headquarters. They plan to speak with the victim once his condition allows. The security guard has been booked into King County Jail under investigation for assault.
