A Selden man has been indicted in connection with a hit-and-run case that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Suffolk County. Lan Truong, 44, stands accused of hitting Victoria Hutson, 37, with his vehicle and then fleeing the scene. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office states that Hutson was walking along the shoulder of the road when she was struck by Truong's vehicle and consequently died from her injuries.
The incident, which took place on November 5, shortly after 11 a.m., witnessed Truong driving a 2016 Toyota Camry swerve into Hutson on Boyle Road, said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, later Truong was allegedly seen inspecting Hutson's body before dragging it to the side and driving away while others tried to assist her. In a grim turn of events that evening, police located the Camry, which had visible bloodstains, behind Truong's residence and took it in as evidence – Truong was arrested the following day.
On November 20, Truong faced an arraignment where he was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting a felony, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License. Justice John B. Collins of the Supreme Court ordered a significant bail for Truong, who is due back in court on December 16, and could face up to 7 years in prison if convicted for the most serious charge. His legal representation comes from Chase Brown, Esq., the result of the upcoming court proceedings remains uncertain; the case is prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Annemarie DiBlasio.
"Victoria Hutson was less than two weeks away from her 38th birthday when she was struck by a driver who allegedly left her at the side of the road and fled," District Attorney Tierney remarked, as per the press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
