A 48-year-old man with a history of sex offenses, identified as Adrian Villareal, has been arrested in Buckeye after allegedly harassing a 12-year-old girl near a bus stop, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Authorities say the incident occurred on Nov. 21st, with police citing that the woman who notified them claimed her daughter was followed and a man tried to engage in conversation while she was on her way to the bus stop at Baseline and Pima roads.

The situation escalated when daycare workers noticed the suspect's behavior and moved to protect the child, explaining to AZFamily that Villareal appeared at their door and, after being denied entry, expressed frustration and left the scene. Despite Villareal claiming the staff had his cellphone, he nevertheless persisted, following the girl until she found refuge at the daycare.

A brief standoff ensued when law enforcement later located Villareal at a nearby house, and after a pursuit involving a K-9 unit, he was apprehended. Villareal, who reportedly said, "took you guys long enough to get me," according to court records obtained by AZFamily, faces charges including harassment, trespassing, and resisting arrest, among previous warrants for not registering as a sex offender and probation violation.

Jennifer Roberts, a daycare owner, recalled her encounter with Villareal, telling AZFamily, "He walked directly up to me. I closed the door. I said to him is there anything I can help you with sir? And he just started rambling," she recalls the moment with lucidity and a hint of trepidation, acknowledging in hindsight the potential danger in confronting Villareal whom she protected the girl from as he yelled, identified as a registered sex offender with a bond set at $2,500.

The Buckeye Police Department has since highlighted the important role of community vigilance in guarding against such threats, commending the actions taken to shield the young girl and urging the public to report any suspicious behavior," according to a statement from Buckeye PD shared by AZFamily."They encourage everyone to be aware of your surroundings and call police to report suspicious activity," while echoing Roberts' sentiment on the value of preemptive action, even when uncertainty persists.
