The "Pink and Pearl" awareness event, focusing on breast and lung cancer detection and education, is set to take place tomorrow as part of the Tennessee Pink and Pearl Campaign. The Shelby County Health Department is hosting the event to inform the community about the local impact of these illnesses in Shelby County.
The Shelby County Health Department announced that its headquarters at 814 Jefferson Avenue will serve as an informational hub tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a release of biodegradable balloons at 2:30 p.m. in remembrance of women affected by breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Shelby County, while lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths for both men and women in the area. Screenings are available to detect these diseases early, which can support more effective treatment.
The public and media are invited to attend the event and access educational resources. The Tennessee Breast and Cervical Screening Program, along with other partner organizations, will provide information, educational materials, giveaways, and resources.
Those who cannot attend in person can find information about the Shelby County Health Department’s programs and services at ShelbyTNHealth.com. The website offers resources beyond in-person events.
