There's a heartening community effort underway in South Milwaukee today, and it involves the local police department teaming up with residents for a good cause. Officer Rodman and his wife, Sarah, are taking a hands-on approach to ensure that children and their families can enjoy the holiday season. They're stationed at the local Wal-Mart, collecting much-needed monetary donations for the annual Shop with a Cop event.
As announced on the South Milwaukee Police Department's Facebook page, the goal is to sponsor 12 children and families. Every dollar contributed is geared towards buying gift cards that these families will use to shop for gifts. "We will be sponsoring 12 children and their families, so every dollar counts! The donations raised will allow us to purchase the gift cards needed for them to shop for their gifts!" the post on Facebook read.
This year also adds modern convenience with a Venmo option for donors who can’t come in person or prefer digital payments. Potential donors are encouraged to visit the coordinators between 9 a.m. & 1 p.m. "We will have a Venmo option available this year as well! Please come see us between 9am & 1pm, TODAY! We appreciate your support!" the South Milwaukee Police Department echoed.
