The Women's Literary Readers of Southeast Raleigh is creating a space for connection and growth through the shared love of books. On the second Saturday of each month, starting January 10, the John P. "Top" Greene African American Cultural Center will host this literary community, welcoming women from all walks of life to engage in a free program from 2 to 4 p.m., designed to encourage diverse perspectives and meaningful connections through literature, as announced on the City of Raleigh's website.
Patricia Nwosu, a former leader in the humanities department at Saint Augustine’s University, is a notable figure in this program. She helped strengthen academic opportunities at the university and contributed to initiatives that connected alumni, educators, and community members while preserving the school’s civil rights history. Her involvement in the Women’s Literary Readers highlights her continued dedication to education and community programs. According to Raleigh’s parks and recreation site, the group meets monthly for activities such as discussions, reading challenges, and author spotlights.
The program aims to broaden participants’ reading interests, build critical thinking skills, and create a sense of community.
