The City of Southlake has announced the start of a closure on Union Church Road stretching from Siena Drive to Davis Boulevard. This road work, which broke ground today, is part of the heavier West Continental Boulevard project aimed at reshaping our local traffic flow. According to a social media post by Keller Public Safety, those who usually traverse this path will quickly need to learn to divert their course for the coming months.
While the entire project isn't expected to wrap up before we ring in 2026, this particular portion of the detour dance is slated to last around eight months, subject to the will of the weather. Detour signs have been put up, subtly hinting drivers to use alternate routes, including Watermere Drive and Southlake Boulevard, to seamlessly access Davis.
The interruptions and rerouting are sure to become a familiar irritant, as residents have been mildly prepared for the inconveniences tied to construction. Yet, as we all well know, expecting construction and living amidst its web of detours are two fundamentally different experiences. The planners assure that these temporary troubles are just paving stones on the road to an enhanced Southlake, a vision that holds the promise of smoother traffic and less congested roadways in the distant, hopefully not too distant, future.
