St. Augustine's city offices will be observing the Thanksgiving holiday by closing their doors on November 27 and November 28. Sanitation services will also be taking a break on these dates, with no solid waste collection on Thanksgiving Day and residential recycling services absent on the following Friday, as stated in the notice, according to a recent announcement on the City of St. Augustine's website.
Residents not wanting to let their recyclables sit idly can refer to the city’s website for a list of free drop-off recycling locations available meanwhile, parking in the Historic Downtown Parking Facility will be free on Thanksgiving Day and city-owned parking spots, including on-street options, will not cost a penny on any national holiday, except at the Castillo de San Marcos. The city cautions, however, that regular parking fees will pick back up on November 28, so revelers should enjoy the free parking while it lasts.
St. Augustine clearly reminds drivers to double-check if they are parking in a City-owned lot to avoid the woes of towing due to several private lots operating under different management and, quite possibly, holding a swift towing policy. Illegally parked vehicles, those that find themselves in areas designated for commercial delivery, franchise sightseeing vehicles, taxis, or even those bold enough to rest on sidewalks or beside yellow curbs, will be subject to enforcement.
If confusion looms about waste pickup or any other concerns about the holiday adjustments, St. Augustine residents can reach out to the City's Solid Waste Division at 904.825.1049.
