St. Augustine will honor Patti Rang, who passed away last Saturday, by flying the American flag on December 1 in her tribute. Rang was posthumously named the 2016 de Aviles Award recipient, recognizing her service to the city and St. Johns County community, according to the City of St. Augustine.
The de Aviles Award recognizes individuals respected for their public service and dedication. Patti and her husband Carl were honored in 2016 for their active involvement in living history and reenactments, representing both the British and Spanish Periods through the Historic Florida Militia, as reported by the City of St. Augustine.
On December 1, the American flag displayed in honor of Patti Rang will be gathered and folded, then presented to her family during a City Commission meeting in early 2026. The ceremony marks her more than 40 years of work in historical interpretation and community involvement in St. Augustine, as stated by the City of St. Augustine.
