In an effort to give back to the community while adding a bit of fuzz to their usual clean-shaven look, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office (SBSO) deputies are participating in No-Shave November, as detailed in a social media post on their official Facebook page. Deputies at SBSO usually adhere to strict grooming standards, but this month, they're breaking tradition for a good cause. Those who choose to put down their razors and donate will be contributing to charitable causes supported by the agency.

According to the Facebook announcement, the event will allow deputies to grow neatly groomed beards during November, which, is a change from the clean-shaven norm. Sheriff James Pohlmann has voiced his support for this temporary amendment to grooming policies, recognizing the importance of community and charity, "We take pride in maintaining a professional appearance," said Sheriff Pohlmann, "but this is a small way our team can come together to help others in need. It’s about giving back."

This isn't the first time law enforcement agencies have participated in such fundraising efforts. No-Shave November has been a popular campaign across the country to raise funds and awareness for various causes, including cancer research and support for those battling the disease. The movement encourages participants to forgo shaving and grooming, in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness.

In addition to supporting a good cause, the initiative builds camaraderie among the officers and fosters a deeper connection with the public, who often appreciate the more personal, relatable aspect of seeing their officers partake in such philanthropic gestures. The Sheriff's office thanks the community for their support in making the difference both on the streets, and "within our agency."
