St. Charles County found itself playing host to an international delegation on October 31, as diplomatic staff from across Europe visited the region to explore local businesses and historic sites. Officials from nine nations, including Norway, Romania, Spain, France, Estonia, Poland, Croatia, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic, engaged with county representatives and entrepreneurs during their multi-day tour of the St. Louis area.
The visit, coordinated by County Executive Steve Ehlmann, offered a comprehensive itinerary aiming to showcase the blend of rural and suburban lifestyles found in St. Charles County. According to a report by the St. Charles County official website, the European diplomats enjoyed a meal where they discussed issues central to regional economic growth and the tech job market. They were also treated to a video highlighting the unique characteristics of the county.
A key moment during the visit included a walking tour along St. Charles' historic Main Street, where County Executive Ehlmann shared a light-hearted observation with the group. "Having buildings here from the 1800s is a big deal," Ehlmann commented, a fact that might tickle the funny bones of visitors from regions where such a timeframe is often considered relatively modern, as per the St. Charles County website.
The diplomats, stationed at their respective embassies in Washington D.C., engaged actively during their visit.
