A 76-year-old man from St. Clair County has hit a life-changing jackpot, winning $1.35 million from the Michigan Lottery, as reported by multiple sources. The anonymous winner achieved his fortune by playing the Diamond Wild Time Progressive Fast Cash game, a decision that he made when noticing the jackpot had surpassed the $1 million mark. In a statement obtained by WZZM13, the man shared, “I looked the ticket over when I got home and saw a match with ‘Jackpot’ underneath, but I had to scan the ticket on the lottery app to double check it. I was so happy and excited when the scanner confirmed my $1.35 million win!”
The winning ticket was purchased at Algonac Wine & Liquor, a store situated roughly 30 miles east of Sterling Heights. As confirmed by ClickOnDetroit, the player said this stroke of luck has paved the way to his retirement. Fast Cash games, from which the winning ticket was a part, are instant-win games played immediately upon purchase, ranging from $2 to $30 per play.
Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli congratulated the lucky player on his windfall and forthcoming retirement. "Congratulations to the lucky player on his $1.35 million Fast Cash win and his upcoming retirement,” Schkreli expressed in comments reported by MLive. She further informed that the man had won 50% of the record-breaking Fast Cash progressive jackpot, which had previously topped $2.7 million. The jackpot's growth continues and now stands at $1.7 million, notwithstanding the recent big payout.
