Choppy waves on Lake Pontchartrain led to a rescue operation from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) Search and Rescue Team. Two boaters found themselves in peril on Friday morning after their boat became overwhelmed by the lake's conditions and began to sink.

The rescue unfolded after the Coast Guard alerted the SJSO to the incident, which occurred just before 8:30 a.m., near the Peavine Boat Launch in LaPlace. The team located the two individuals, an 18-year-old and a 65-year-old, clutching the rigging of their submerged 25-foot vessel. In a harrowing twist of fate, the men had been occupied with retrieving shrimp nets when they encountered unruly waves that sealed their boat's fate.

According to a social media post by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, the boaters, thankfully, did not sustain any injuries from the ordeal. They were safely transported back to shore onboard the Search and Rescue vessel, spared from the lake's unforgiving grasp.
