The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office (SJSO) responded to a distressing call on Sunday, in which residents reported an attempted break-in at their Sweetbrier Branch Lane home. Upon arrival, deputies found three youths, aged 13 and 14, with gloves and dressed in dark clothing, lurking around the vicinity of the property. The juveniles were charged with Loitering and Prowling, with one also drawing a charge for Criminal Mischief due to the damage inflicted on the front doors of local homes.
This prank, sweeping through neighborhood streets, turned violent when terrified homeowners, anticipating a home invasion and poised with firearms, aimed to protect their sanctuaries. "This 'challenge' is not a harmless prank," the SJSO communicated through their post, underscoring the potential for dire outcomes. "The complainants were armed, waiting at the front door to shoot the possible intruder," they detailed, highlighting the critical dangers accompanying such reckless behavior.
