Two cyclists became stranded on an unfamiliar trail in Nevada County last Friday evening as temperatures dropped and daylight faded. They called 911 and stayed in place while awaiting help, as reported by the Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue deployed 29 members, including two e-bike teams, three OHV teams, a ground team, and a standby team, to assist the cyclists. The riders were able to keep warm by moving in place, and calm weather helped reduce their exposure.
Two cyclists were stranded and were first reached by an e-bike team that gave them food and warm clothing. A second team with a UTV and Jeep then safely extracted the cyclists and their bicycles. "This incident was such a success because the subjects quickly contacted 911 and did not move from their location and so we were able to quickly locate them," the rescue team stated. According to the Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue on their Facebook page, all responding volunteers were recognized for their efforts.
