Tragedy struck Boulder streets in a series of traumatic incidents, as reported by the Boulder Police Department. Two traffic collisions unfolded on Sunday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the local community and propelling the issue of road safety back into public discourse. Details emerged regarding both crashes through official statements and witness accounts.
The initial accident happened just after 5 p.m. at the South Boulder Road and Manhattan Circle intersection, involving a Hyundai Sonata and an e-bike. According to the Boulder Police Department, the Hyundai, driven by a 39-year-old male, collided with a 77-year-old man on an e-bike, who, despite having the green light, rode abruptly into traffic. The Hyundai driver attempted to swerve, yet the crash was unavoidable. The senior was left with serious injuries, his condition remaining serious at the hospital. The driver, unscathed physically, cooperated fully with the subsequent investigation.
In a cruel twist of fate, while officers and Boulder Fire-Rescue were responding to the first scene, another distress call came in at around 7:40 p.m., this time from 19th and Yarmouth streets. Here, in an unfortunate turn of events, a 41-year-old woman found herself pinned between a Jeep and a trailer due to a teen girl's accidental acceleration. As reported by the Boulder Police Department, the woman sustained severe injuries, her condition mirroring that of the e-bike rider. No injuries were reported for the teen driver, and the Boulder authorities are not contemplating charges.
