In Nashville, a concerning trend has emerged involving firearms being stolen from vehicles. According to a recent announcement by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), a staggering 887 guns have been reported stolen from vehicles this year alone. This figure represents a significant 77% of the total number of firearms stolen throughout Davidson County in 2025, totaling 1,151.
The numbers appear to be escalating; the MNPD noted that last year at this time, the count of guns stolen from vehicles was marked at 807. This rise in thefts has prompted the MNPD to urge the community to not only lock their car doors but also to secure their valuables, particularly firearms, and to always "REMOVE THE KEYS," as stated in their public address.
Last week, there were 17 reported instances of guns being taken from automobiles. The MNPD is actively working to combat this issue and has emphasized the critical role that responsible gun ownership and vehicle security play in the prevention of thefts. To arm individuals with the necessary precautionary measures, the police department has starkly conveyed the risks associated with leaving unsecured firearms in vehicles.
