The Metropolitan Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of a child in Southeast. On May 8, 2024, officers responded to the 1400 block of L Street Southeast after reports of an unconscious child. They found a young girl who was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The victim was identified as 3-year-old Zy’Onne Forney of Southeast. Following a thorough investigation, detectives determined that the incident was domestic in nature, as per the Metropolitan Police Department.
On Monday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 31-year-old James Crawley, also of Southeast. He was taken to Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch and charged with First Degree Murder – Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children under a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
