Grass Valley became the scene of a crime bust as three individuals allegedly attempted a daytime residential burglary. According to a social media release by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, the event unfolded near Clear Creek Elementary School, on Clear Creek Place. The suspects were apprehended by the authorities following a chase and a perimeter search aided by California Highway Patrol.
The situation began to unravel around 11:45 a.m. yesterday, when the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the reported burglary. "Upon NCSO deputies’ arrival, three subjects began to flee on foot from the victim’s property," the Sheriff's Office detailed. One female suspect was immediately detained while the two male suspects tried to evade the deputies through a run. A coordinated response featuring ground and air support, alongside the NCSO Sheriff K9 Vito and Deputy King, led to the apprehension of the suspects after a determined search.
All three individuals were shortly booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility, facing charges that included Burglary, Conspiracy, and Resisting Arrest. The individuals apprehended were identified as 26-year-old Haley Koen of Penn Valley, 37-year-old Antonio Medina, and 54-year-old Jamie Esquivel. While Koen's residence is known, the places where Medina and Esquivel reside remain under investigation.
Further investigation on the scene revealed a nearby vehicle connected to the suspects, containing "additional suspicious property including several sets of shaved keys, which are known to be tools used in auto theft." This discovery hinted at the possibility that the suspects were involved in broader criminal activities. It was also noted that a stolen ATV key belonging to one of the victims was found with one of the suspects, as noted by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
