Police discovered four adults dead in the Bronx yesterday in what authorities are investigating as a possible triple murder-suicide. According to ABC7 New York, the incident occurred at the Castle Hill Houses during a wellness check. A 44-year-old man is believed to have fatally shot his 75-year-old mother, his 26-year-old daughter, and his daughter’s boyfriend, who is in his twenties. The victims were found inside a fifth-floor apartment.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly before 10 a.m. and recovered a firearm near the victims, indicating a potential violent incident. In a statement to ABC7 New York, Tiffany Evans described the 75-year-old victim as a "very loving person." Another neighbor recounted an encounter with the suspect, who had reportedly mentioned plans to "hang out" with someone on the 11th floor before later saying, "sorry we couldn't hang out, see you in the next life."
The investigation remains ongoing as the New York City medical examiner works to determine the official causes of death. ABC7 New York reported that the suspect left a voicemail for his 20-year-old son saying, "Check on your family." This message, along with the evidence recovered at the scene, is being reviewed as part of the investigation. Police have not yet released the identities of the victims.
Violence has been a persistent issue in this part of the Bronx. The Gothamist reported that the area has experienced a 17% rise in shootings this year, with 27 incidents involving 30 victims.
