Chicago police are asking for the public’s help to track down three people who, they say, robbed a teenager at gunpoint aboard a CTA Green Line train in Englewood. The 15-year-old was reportedly held up around 8 p.m. on Oct. 8 near the 6300 block of South Halsted Street, and investigators have now released surveillance images as they search for the suspects.
Police release images, ask for tips
Detectives shared photos of three males believed to be involved in the robbery, along with detailed clothing descriptions to jog memories. One suspect was seen wearing a gray sweater under a black jacket with black jeans and black shoes. Another wore a black sweater, black jeans, and black shoes and carried a gray backpack. The third was seen in a gray Nike sweater, black Adidas pants, and black shoes.
Anyone who recognizes the individuals in those images or has information on the case is urged to contact police, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
How to help detectives
If you recognize any of the people shown in the surveillance photos or have video from the train car around the time of the incident, detectives want to hear from you. Call the Public Transportation Detectives at 312-745-4447 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com using reference number JJ444919.
The CTA notes that it works closely with the Chicago Police Department’s Public Transportation Section and urges riders not to confront suspects. Instead, riders are encouraged to use onboard emergency systems when needed and report detailed descriptions to authorities, according to CTA.
Transit safety and city response
City leaders and transit officials have been under pressure this year to improve safety on trains and platforms, pairing camera upgrades and visible police deployments with social service responses. Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office and local reporting have described efforts to combine outreach teams and enforcement to curb unsafe behavior on CTA property, according to WBEZ.
Anyone who was on the Green Line that night near the 6300 block of South Halsted Street, or who has relevant footage or information, is urged to contact detectives. Riders are reminded to stay alert and report suspicious activity as soon as they can safely do so.
