
A 16-year-old was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Monessen, Westmoreland County, yesterday, and has since been airlifted to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment, the local authorities confirmed. Monessen Police Chief David Yuhasz described the crime scene, as detailed by WPXI, reporting that the teen was found with a gunshot wound to the head but was alert and conscious at the time of being flown to the hospital.
Officials were called to the 200 block of Linden Avenue near Rostraver Street following reports of shots being fired, and an investigation ensued over several hours, wherein evidence, including a handful of shell casings, was collected at the scene. The victim was reportedly in a vehicle with two other people when the incident occurred. No other injuries were reported. A
According to an interview with Chief Yuhasz by WTAE, the car that the victim was in was hit once, and a nearby parked vehicle and a residence down the street also sustained damage from gunfire. The Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office has indicated that one person was taken into custody. However, as of last night, no one had been charged with the shooting.
