Texarkana College is set to bolster its training programs with the support of a hefty $805,000 Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant, courtesy of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and announced by the Office of the Texas Governor. The grant aims to provide customized training for over 335 workers involved with Graphic Packaging International, focusing on the paper manufacturing sector—a critical industry for the Texas economy.
The governor highlighted the SDF grant's significance, stating, "Through this grant, employees will be equipped with the tools and skills needed to enhance their high-demand careers and further grow our paper manufacturing industry."
Joe Esparza, Chairman of the TWC, expressed the transformative potential of the grant, saying, "Skills Development Fund grants open pathways to prosperity for local businesses and their workforce." The collaboration between TWC and Texarkana College promises to result in upskilling hundreds of employees, ensuring a more proficient labor force. The presentation of the awards took place at Texarkana College's McCulloch Industrial Technology Center, highlighting the college's central role in this initiative.
Since starting in 1996, the SDF grant program has a proven track record of enhancing Texas's workforce, delivering invaluable training to numerous sectors. According to the Texas government's news release, the program has been instrumental in upgrading or supporting the creation of over 435,000 jobs in partnership with more than 4,900 employers. This latest grant is expected to not only fortify the skill set of current employees but also aid in ushering in new talent to an ever-evolving industry.
With an eye on the future, Texarkana College and the state of Texas continue to invest in education and training programs that meet the demands of the modern workforce. This partnership illustrates a continued dedication to growth, not just in the paper manufacturing business, but across all industries demanding specialized skill sets in the Lone Star State.
