A tense standoff at a Tulsa apartment ended violently this past week when an officer-involved shooting claimed the life of a man who had taken his girlfriend hostage. Officers responded to a domestic violence call on Saturday that escalated over the course of several hours, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

The incident began midday when a woman reported her boyfriend, Scott Forrest, had been threatening her and was keeping her against her will. Police arriving at the scene were met with a barrage of gunfire, including three shots fired through the apartment wall, narrowly missing officers and causing wood shrapnel to strike an officer's face; equipped with a shield, the officer was narrowly hit. In a statement obtained by the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook page, they described the suspect as "a white male wearing an OU shirt and jeans," armed with a 40 caliber pistol.

Special Operations Team (SOT) was called to the scene after Forrest reportedly fired shots and refused to release his hostage. Over several hours of negotiation, the distraught man made it clear he was not ready to surrender, as he held the victim at gunpoint, fearing for her life, which was confirmed by dispatch receiving calls indicating Forrest's intent to harm both the victim and himself. Around 3:30 PM, the climax of the confrontation was reached when Forrest appeared at a window with his pistol.

Officers on scene, without hesitation, seized the moment to protect the victim in immediate danger. According to the same social media post, Special Operations Team members fired at Forrest upon sighting him armed at the window. In a coordinated action, another team element breached the apartment, leading to the successful rescue of the hostage, and Forrest succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following standard procedure, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending review from the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office. The incident remains under investigation, with more information to be released as it becomes available.
