ICE officials arrested 33-year-old Walter Leonel Perez Rodriguez in Houston on Tuesday. Rodriguez, previously deported twice, has criminal convictions including the sexual assault of a child and a history of illegal reentry into the U.S., according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
During the arrest, Rodriguez attacked an ICE officer with a metal coffee cup, causing serious injuries that required 13 stitches. His deportation record dates back to June 28, 2013, and February 24, 2020, showing a repeated pattern of illegal entry and criminal behavior, as reported by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Salvadoran national Rodriguez, who has a history of criminal convictions including sexual assault of a child in 2013 and DWI in 2014, has repeatedly entered the U.S. illegally, most recently in January 2020. Following his latest arrest, he now faces charges for assaulting a federal officer in addition to illegal reentry.
